“Game on” — Santorum song goes viral

“A catchy song praising Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum sung by two young women from Oklahoma is making the rounds online. Sisters Haley and Camille Harris of the First Love Band are big fans of Santorum and wrote ‘Game on” after attending a rally for the candidate earlier this week,” according to Politico.

  1. I like the song….the lyrics not so much. I’d really like to see an interview with the girls and see just how much they really know about Santorum or Reagan.

  2. Yeah, I agree. The verse “There is hope for the nation again, maybe the first time since we had Ronald Reagan”. Kind of turns my stomach. I guess they want to bring us back to a sense of false security. Catchy diddy however. I was writing a song about the GOP candidates myself but it was so laced with profanity it wouldn’t have made it on the air:)

  3. I was hoping there’d be a verse about the transvaginal transducer. I was disappointed.

  4. Rick Santorum just might be the biggest anti establishment republican candidate in a long time. When I say anti establishment I mean going against those who control the agenda and candidates of the republican party. Romney is the establishments choice since 2009. Outside huge amounts of Super Pac money Obama should have a cake walk to re-election.

  5. Without … what was her name, ‘I can see Russia from my backyard’ – not Fey, the other one, with the shotguns and grizzly bears… without her on board, the over-the-hill codgety codgers need someone to give a hormone vote to by association, so there you have it.

  6. @Michael Anderson. That’s funny.

Now I’m going to be humming this catchy little diddy all day. Thanks Jeff.

    • I wish I had seen this in time for the “Save the Yuba” trip to the Capitol in Sacramento. You, Michael A., Caleb Dardick and the children could have broken out in chorus! I would have liked to have seen the look on Resource Secretary Laird’s face.

      Enjoy your day!

  7. Didn’t Reagan spend the “heck” out of the American Budget forcing the Russian’s to almost go bankrupt?

Like that’ll ever happen again with the tight-fisted bunch we have in place right now.

I don’t think these 2 pretty young girls know much of anything, and until they learn better, I’d suggest that they read some books to learn, and stop singing of dopey uninformed songs.

    • Yes, Reagan spent a ton, and his idolators love to attribute his winning the Cold War to that spending, SDI, and other of his ‘tough’ policies. But even Gerry Ford said, just before he died, resentfully, that that scenario was basically nonsensense, as that was the policy of all the presidents from Truman on. But the point I really wanted to make–and went to look for the magazine to refresh my mind on details, unsuccessfully–is that the Soviet Union was experiencing severe economic proplems due to the dramatic fall in oil income, their major source of export income. Nobody wanted to buy any o the other crap they made. Also, read a great book that helped shatter the Reagan myth of winning Cold War. It attributed the fall of USSR more to what Gorbachev willingly didn’t do than anything Reagan did and was written by a Russian.

Now, regarding the little ditty sung by by that group from the plains of Oklahoma, my guess is that it was a collaborative effort by one of these new charasmatic churches. One of my students–not a ganster, a nice, surfer, kid who found Jesus as so many troubled people do–kept pestering me to come to his church. I finally agreed. I must admit, they rock band that was playing was very good, people were hacing a good time, and the place was rocking. The sermon was short, then more music. That’s when I made my escape. Now, if they can turn In La Godda La Vida into a campaign song for Rick Paul, and mix it to the clip of him with Borat . . .

  8. Certainly was a catchy tune, and they are talented, pretty young women. I was surprised by the production quality. This was not your typical YouTube, amateur production. I wonder if Foster “Freeze”* bankrolled it.

*Friess a.k.a. Santorum’s personal super-rich guy for those who don’t know about him, yet and want to look him up.

    • Well, there’s a whole social media strategy around it: Facebook, website and the song is on itunes.

The internet is changing how we communicate!

      • With the that further information, Jeff, I definitely see it as a professional, coordinated effort trying to look grassroots. The internet is changing how we communicate and those who want to communicate are learning to use the internet to their advantage.

  9. I’m trying to start a recording studio at Nevada Union. I have a few thoughts.

    1) This is professionally done. There is zero chance of any spontaniety and editing. This took hundreds of hours of filming and editing.

    2) the song would have taken days/weeks to write. I’m skeptical children of this age could write lyrics like this. However, it could happen, I suppose; the blind pig theory.

In short, these girls can sing and there was a song put together, a band and filmed a video. It’s totally staged.

We could so the same in Nevada City. We have the talent.

    • Hi Chris,

I didn’t address your second point in my first post, but that thought crossed my mind, too I don’t think this song was a written by a couple of kids spontaneously after a rally. Sure is a nice story though and part of the allure to be sure. Sometimes songs can be written quickly, but it takes a lot of time to put the polish on it that this one has, in any case.

Whatever the back-story, this was a very staged production. That is obvious to anyone who has taken Filmmaking 101, and is probably obvious to a good number of people who have not.

We certainly have the talent in this area to do something like this. In fact, I think an example of what talent we have here was the video made for the Google 95959.

    • There is a wealth of talent in Nevada County that could perform and write good or even better music. That was a good tune, nice voices, and enjoyable. The lyrics, uh not so much. Did anyone else attend NU Unplugged last Saturday? Talk about some amazing talent at a high school level. Best $10 for live music entertainment. Hard rock, to some bluegrass, R&B, progressive rock and lots of original tunes. The sophmore young lady that sings opera will send chills throughout the spine, just amazing.

      • Did not attend NU Unplugged this year as my son’s band had to withdrawal. Our guitarist broke his hand.

We’re thinking of adding an outdoor show in the Fall.

  10. There really is a big difference between the America these Oklahomans live in, and the one I live in here in California.

  11. They must like Skippy Santorum very much. Yippy & Dippy, not their cup of TeaOP.

  12. One more thought. After seeing this, I wonder when Mitt Romney’s “spontaneously” written and staged music video done by a couple of young supporters and Facebook page will appear?

  13. The video doesn’t work anymore. What happened??

    From the YouTube site:
    “‘[ORIGINAL] Game On…’
This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Camille Harris, David Harris.”

    • Dunno. Those are the parents of the girls. Perhaps the peeps want their fans to purchase it on iTunes, rather than having it go viral. I linked to another version that works.

BTW, now there’s a video that shows the notes for performing the song:
