“It has come to our attention that a handful of local radio stations may have played jcpenney radio spots adjacent to or during The Rush Limbaugh Show,” JC Penney reports today on its Facebook page.
“To be clear, jcpenney is not a national advertiser of this show. We have a strict ‘No Run’ policy in place specifically regarding The Rush Limbaugh Show. After jcpenney confirms the facts, we will contact any local radio station that is in violation of our radio advertising parameters to ensure that our ‘no run’ policy is adhered to regarding this program.”
Editor’s note: This email from a KNCO sales staffer was sent to me. I’m glad KNCO is going to address the complaints against Rush for his latest offensive outburst.
KNCO’s Facebook page has been plastered with complaints this week. To be sure, social media is changing how we communicate in small towns, forever providing a grassroots outlet to hold our major media accountable. There is no longer a “bottleneck.” Here’s the memo:
“When the Nevada County community speaks, KNCO listens and reports.
“Due to the heavy volume of negative (and some positive) comments regarding the Rush Limbaugh regularly aired show on KNCO from 9-noon Monday – Friday, Tom Fitzsimmons is conducting a 2-way radio for all of our listeners tomorrow, Wednesday March 7th. What this means is Tom will continue his morning show into the 9-noon hours with open phones for our listeners to comment live on air during the time frame Rush would normally air. The show tomorrow is the time to air your comments. We appreciate your comments and concerns.
“Thank you for your support during this disparaging time.”
“Bruce Bochy knows that Giants fans want to see Buster Posey play. They didn’t get that on Monday, when the Giants lost the first game of spring training to the Brewers 7-3,” according to NBC Bay Area.
“Bochy acknowledged, via Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com, that it’s something fans are interested in, but pointed out that he’s not going to force the catcher into the lineup for the sake of appeasing people at home.
“‘Sure, I know they want to see him,’ Bochy said. ‘We do, too. Our hope is that would happen, but it’s not worth the risk.
“The only time frame that Bochy would offer for ‘when’ is ‘possibly by the end of the week,’ and it would be with Posey in a DH role, rather than actually catching.”
Just like friends, you can learn a lot about political bloggers by the hyperlinks they keep.
On Barry Pruett’s political blog “Inside Nevada County Politics,” for example, he links to Aaron Park’s “Right on Daily” in neighboring Placer County.
Aaron — whose politics are way out in right field — always has pearls of wisdom for us — and name-calling is his stock-in-trade. You know, like Rush Limbaugh. They call it “free speech.”
Like Rush, Aaron doesn’t tone down his name calling for woman: In his latest missive, he calls Placer County Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery a “left-wing nutbag.”
Aaron also calls her an “enemy of freedom.” And though wishful thinking, he writes that she could get “smoked out of office – which the taxpayers of Placer County need, desperately.” Right on Aaron! (who calls himself the 4 term California Republican Assembly Sgt. at Arms).
In fact Jennifer is a moderate Democrat — sort of like Truckee mayor Richard Anderson, who is expected to become supervisor in District 5. She is a collaborator, who is well liked on both sides of the aisle.
And, sure enough, Jennifer — the issue-oriented moderate — is going to get re-elected. Most of us are in the middle, remember? It goes for Placer County too.
Don’t blame Rush for all of this. The name-calling by the hard-right has escalated since our Congressman Tom McClintock set foot in the foothills. To them, even Republicans like Doug Ose and Doug LaMalfa are “liberal conservatives” — whatever that means.
Tom, you will recall, led by example in stating that it was time to get rid of our “left wing” clerk recorder at a tea party rally. No such luck though — fortunately, Nevada County is becoming more of a meritocracy, where people are elected based on merit and experience, not a “good old boy” political network.
You will hear more pearls of wisdom from Aaron Park this election season, no doubt targeting LaMalfa as a “liberal conservative” as he runs against Sam Aanestad. (Sam is a decent man, but he apparently just looks the other way to Aaron’s mudslinging tactics, like so many GOP “leaders.”)
The Holy Grail for the hard-right and their “pundits” is that they will all join hands and build a bridge (you know, like the Coca-Cola commercial) — from Nevada to Placer to Calaveras counties and beyond.
Don’t count on it. My dearly departed mother — a longtime staunch conservative who volunteered for the Republican party throughout her life and even hosted Ronald Reagan at her high school — had a word for these people. She called them “Yahoos.”
In her time, just so you know, Yahoo was a reference to the creatures in Gulliver’s Travels — known for their filthy and unpleasant habits — not the Silicon Valley internet firm.
And unlike the GOP party leaders, who seem be cowed by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Aaron Park, she would say it to their face if necessary.
“George Will, one of the last lions of the right wing whose conservatism is a philosophy rather than a pathology, has heaped scorn on Republican leaders for their cowardly obeisance to Rush Limbaugh,” according to the L.A. Times.
“Sunday morning on ABC’s ’This Week,’ Will said straight out that ‘Republican leaders are afraid of Rush Limbaugh.’ Last week, Limbaugh infamously characterized Sandra Fluke, a 30-year-old Georgetown University law student, as a ‘slut’ and a ‘prostitute’ who should provide the world with videos of herself having sex because she supports birth control coverage in employee insurance plans.
“Will said the tepid disapproval of Limbaugh’s words expressed by GOP presidential candidates and congressional leaders demonstrates just how much they are scared of the king of hot-talk radio.
“‘[House Speaker John] Boehner comes out and says Rush’s language was inappropriate,’ Will said. “Using the salad fork for your entree, that’s inappropriate. Not this stuff.’
