Local tea party leader puts best face on Meckler resignation

“Rather than speculate on what occurred, we are reproducing below the full letter of resignation Mark wrote to the Board of Directors,” writes Nancy Garcia, president of the Nevada County Tea Party on the group’s Facebook page.

“While, at first glance, this may seem a negative event, in the long run I feel it will result in a very positive outcome since Mark will remain as committed as always to the cause of the Tea Party and particularly committed to supporting the grassroots groups.

“For an update on the story attend Mark’s “TEA PARTY PATRIOTS” book signing March 1st at 6:30 PM – Auburn Grace Community Church, 3126 Olympic Ave., Auburn.”

The resignation letter is here.

  1. He and his friend were promoting their book on one of the news shows on MSNBC not too long ago. Maddow’s show? Is Mark hoping to retire on the money he hopes to make on the book and work his propaganda in the background?
I over heard red shirts in McDonalds the other day. They were ingaged in denigrading women using the old arguments made to my grandmother’s generation. Conservatives are pulling out all the stops. McDonalds seems to be the only place in time that I’ve encountered red shirts. I’m still not impressed.

    • Sounds like a rehearsal for a comedy routine. I get amazed people still think that way, then I’m reminded that ignorance is “bliss”. I was of the understanding that the TP supported America and the words “Life, Liberty, & Pursuit of Happiness” actually means something. Life = they’re idea of a womans “place” is not a life. Liberty = A woman stuck in the house being told what to do is not liberty. Pursuit of Happiness = How in the world is a woman supposed to be happy being denigrated and bullied?

  2. Wow, what a letter. Lets re-cap his complaints:

    1) The Tea Party is a tool of the Republican Party
    2) The Tea Party has developed a considerable fundraising capacity and it is being directed at creating a national institutional lobbying presence
    3) The Tea Party is hiring partisan lobbyists
    3) As Treasurer he has be excluded from sharing financial information
    4) He has been excluded from personnel decisions
    5) He chafes at the TPP as an institution controlling his speech.

I wonder how our friends in Nevada County, who have made the TPP the last best hope for American liberty will take the realization that their national organization has turned into a bloated, self interested, elite institution?

Wow, welcome to the real world my fellow citizens; this is what many of us on the “other side” have been saying all along….

  3. What would Russ Steele write about if it wasn’t for this blog:

  4. Take a look in the mirror. It’s just about the same everywhere you look. Good for Mr. Meckler. He tried to accomplish something and succeeded in reminding people about our freedoms. Awesome.

  5. When I look in the mirror I see a real American!

    • Did Mark Meckler see himself in the mirror while bending over on a parade float in front of families and children? My guess is he taught us all a lesson about freedoms when he figured he had the freedom to display himself in an obscene position.

  6. Here is Rick Santorum addressing a collection of the Tea Party Groups (including TPP) in Troy Michigan yesterday:

    • Steve,
Obama says he wants all Americans to go to college, what a snob. Now that is taking something out of context.

The funny thing is if you ask Mr Santorum about his trade policies, he will tell you how free trade is a good thing and how he wants those skilled handed American workers to compete with oppressed workers of China and twenty cent an hour labor in third world nations.

      • What President Obama has stated, on multiple occasions, is that he wants everyone in the US to have the opportunity to go to college…the exact same thing that Rick Santorum said on Meet the Press this morning.

I actually think we should be looking forward in the next 20 years to making a college education free for anyone who wants it…and I think that could be accomplished with the advancement of technologies like Khan Academy, the opening of all courses at MIT, and the beginning of that mindset at Stanford.

  7. Good for Mark Meckler if the reasons in his resignation letter are genuine. It is not worth donating your life to a cause within an organization that is hypocritical. Taking one step forward and three steps back.

    • Preface: this is a literary comparison not an equation of an individual to the literary creation…..

One of my favorite quotes in literature is Mary Shelly in Frankenstein….

“Remember, I am thy creature, I ought to be thy Adam; but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed….I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy and I shall again be virtuous”

What is the responsibility of the creator to the creature….was it that Frankenstein was a monster, or that Dr. Frankenstein was an irresponsible parent repelled by what he had created? Perhaps we will never know…and that is as Ms. Shelly wanted it.
