  1. BTW, this is the future of journalism: free, real time reporting with video and interactive maps of the ongoing Reno fire:

It is light years ahead of the Swift newspaper in that market:

Around here, we can get this kind of coverage from Yubanet.com.

  2. What you have is not the police blotter, in the sense most of us like. I’ve got it on my todo list to drop by the sheriff’s dept and see just who is allowed access and how. Does it require an in person visit, or can it be done online? Do you have to represent an “official” newspaper, or can any blogger go for it?

    • This is a map list of all reported crimes by the Sheriff’s department in your neighborhood. If you click on it, you can see the details of the crime.

If you want the “color,” you can visit the Sheriff’s Office or the NC or GVPD. It is a matter of public record to anyone.

  3. It snowed about 2 inches in Truckee over night. A most welcome respite. Unfortunately the rain and snow did not come soon enough for many of our Sierra friends in Reno. Reno is once again suffering the impact of a high wind and low moisture winter, causing Vice President Joe Biden’s trip to the region to be truncated and leading to the loss of more than 20 homes due to wildfire. That’s right, wildfire in January.

  4. Just watched SITR for the first time with my 6 and 3 year olds. Big laughs from us all. Little worried about the example Gene Kelly is setting for my 3 year old during the upcoming days of rain.
