Tibetan monks return to Grass Valley/Auburn from Jan. 15-22

The Alcove in collaboration with Sierra Friends of Tibet is pleased to announce the 12th Annual Visit of Tibetan Buddhist Monks from Gaden Shartse Monastery from January 15 to 22 in Grass Valley and Auburn.
 
All events take place at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center unless otherwise noted: 410 South Church St., Grass Valley (corner of Chapel St., two blocks from historic downtown Grass Valley)
 
All events by donation only. No one turned away for lack of funds.
 
Sand Painting will be created daily and on view from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily
through Saturday, January 21.
 
This tour purpose is to raise funds for the Gaden Shartse School, which has 400 students aged 5 to 19 years. The students study Tibetan, English and Hindi languages as well as mathematics and the Dharma. The goal is to raise enough funds to purchase 25 computers for the 400 student in the school.

Sunday, January 15
3:00 p.m.: Group Vajravidharan Healing Empowerment:
The Tantric ritual of Vajravidaran is the primary focus of private and group healings. Vajravidaran is a ritual of purification and has three stages: purification and removing of negativities; removing subtle negative imprints; and offering protection.
 
Monday, January 16
10 a.m.: Monks will begin the Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig) Sand Painting. The AvalokiteshvaraChenrezig (Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit) is personification of great compassion of all enlightened beings. Chenrezig took the special oath to listen to the cries of poor and destitute for help them.

7 p.m.: Dharma Teaching: The Six Perfections from the Lam Rim: Generosity
 
Tuesday, January 17
7 p.m.: Dharma Teaching: The Six Perfections from the Lam Rim: Ethics
 
Wednesday January 18
7 p.m.: The Six Perfections from the Lam Rim: Patience
 
Thursday, January 19
7 p.m.: Dharma Teaching: The Six Perfections from the Lam Rim: Enthusiastic Perseverance
 
Friday, January 20
7 p.m.: Vajravidarin Group Healing Empowermen at Ahmbiance (upstairs in the Gold Country Mall) 884 Lincoln Way, Auburn

Saturday, January 21
10 a.m.: Final Dharma Teaching: Six Perfections from the Lam Rim: Concentration and Wisdom
2 p.m.: Sacred Art Talk: The care and placement of sacred images, statues, paintings, books, etc. Please bring your sacred images to be blessed.
7 p.m.: Tentative Cultural Performance by Shemshug Punda or the conference of the Avalokiteshvara blessing still to be determined
 
Sunday, January 22
3 p.m.: Avalokiteshvara Sand Painting Dissolution Ceremony
Sand painting will be swept up and sand will be distributed to those in attendance.
