Free holiday gym passes for active military personnel

Editor’s note: Phil Carville sent over this announcement. Marketing to the military is a savvy marketing idea, as I’ve written here before. The Carville’s clubs are top notch. When you’re out of town visiting family, this is a generous offer. Thanks for all you do!

The South Yuba Club is offering free passes to active military persons for the Holiday Season. Active Duty Military personnel can use South Yuba Club facilities in Nevada City or Grass Valley without charge from November 25th to December 31st, 2011.

Many Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and other active duty personnel will be visiting family and friends over the holidays. In order to make their holiday stays even more hospitable, they can use both clubs at no charge. All that is required is an active military ID Card. Service men and women should visit the clubs, call the Nevada City club at 470-9100, the Grass Valley club at 272-7676 or visit the club website at www.southyubaclub.com

Rent a vacation home in one of our gated communities?

The economic downturn has wreaked havoc on our lifestyle, and now it is leading to a dust-up among residents in the gated Lake of the Pines community over who gets to hang out there.

Homeowners are being asked to vote on whether to amend the CC&Rs to prohibit the rental of homes for less than 30 days.

I checked out some vacation rental websites and came across this for one LOP home (6 bedrooms and 5 baths) in “gated golf community” (AKA LOP).

“As a family of fifteen, aging from 4 to 71 we found this a great vacation spot,” said one reviewer. “The children caught plenty of small fish off the dock. The older ones found larger ones in the lake. A beautiful home with all the ameneties, including cable and wi-fi. The kids enjoyed the paddle boat and canoe and the adults appreciated the refrigerator on the dock. There were plenty of places to relax and just and take in the view. I would highly recommend this as a fun place. It was well maintained and clean.”

Ballots on the decision are due on Nov. 28, according to LOP’s website.

Though the website also is supposed to be “gated,” you can easily find the amendment to the CC&Rs by using the search function:

“Amendment to CC&R’s, Article II, Section 3

(e) No Lot may be leased or rented for less than thirty (30) days, excluding Lots
leased or rented to an Owner and/or an Owner’s family. In this subsection, “family”
means two (2) or more persons who live together and maintain a common household in a
Lot whether or not they are all related to each other by birth, marriage or legal adoption.
Lease or rental agreements for Lots may not contain provisions for early termination that
evade this thirty (30) day limitation. This limitation is intended to prevent, among other
things, leases or rentals to non-Owners for transient or hotel purposes.”

Perhaps some LOP readers who comment here can share their views. I wonder if it’s a “cautionary tale” about future “exclusive” planned developments here.
