Some years ago, I was pulling into The Union parking lot when a Grass Valley police officer pulled me over and issued a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.
Since I was going two miles per hour, it seemed that a warning would have sufficed. But I let it go (no “good old boy” mindset) and paid the fine. Later, I learned that Grass Valley police are a zealous bunch.
So it surprised me this weekend to find a Grass Valley police officer, no less, not wearing a seat belt while cruising the downtown. I asked him about it in a joking manner while crossing the street, and he just shrugged his shoulders, sort of chagrined.
We had a laugh and continued our walk down Mill Street, spending some money and visiting with merchants during the Open House. It was crowded.
BTW, Grass Valley has been a big proponent of seatbelt awareness. Details are here.
