No politics, just business, on Nevada City Chamber ballot

We received the Nevada City Chamber ballot in the mail yesterday. I was pleased to see it’s all business — no petty politics. In recent years, the Chamber had been caught up in a wicked political ebroglio that put “big fish in small town” egos — some of them from outside Nevada City — ahead of the chamber’s nonpartisan mission. In fact, a coup was in the works, but it fizzled.

This year’s ballot confirms a “back to business” approach. One example: Chuck Shea’s and Gary Tintle’s collaborative efforts to draw the military here. We are happy to donate a weekend at our cabin to the annual chamber fundraiser — as we did last year. Thanks to Cathy and her staff for all you do.

The nine candidates for seven slots are here:

•Tom Coleman (incumbent) – National Hotel
•Barbara Tanner – associate member
•Chuck Shea (incumbent) – The Parsonage Bed & Breakfast
•Dave Francis – Las Katarina’s
•Corey Bristow – Cafe Mekka
•Valerie Moberg – Broad Street Inn
•Melinda Day-Solis – Nevada City Self Storage
•Robert Smith – 5-Mile House
•Sharon Mills – Piety Hill Cottage
