Bachmann re: Palin: Two “girls” in a “mud wrestling fight”?

“Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann claimed Wednesday that the media is rooting for a catfight between her and Sarah Palin,” according to CNN.

“‘They want to see two girls come together and have a mud wrestling fight, and I am not going to give that to them,” Bachmann told a voter Wednesday who asked about her relationship with the former Alaska governor.

“The Minnesota congresswoman praised Palin and said there is room in the Republican presidential race for any candidate.

“‘This race is wide open and we can accommodate all the candidates who want to come in,’ she said.

“She urged Republicans to unite behind ‘the ultimate goal’ of defeating President Barack Obama in 2012.”

Methinks Michele projects too much, though I’ve always wondered about the appeal of Bachmann and Palin to retired white males who are over 60 and very conservative. Is there a Karl Rove internal “memo” on that?

Let’s get on with the issues please.

  1. Of course they’re not wrestling. Michelley is writing and soon hawking her “book” and Balin is hawking “SoConceited”, uh, “FoldedandPleated”, uh, “SillyandSeated”?…”VictimMistreated”?…”WorshippedandFeated”? Never mind, it’ll come to me…Kate

  2. Jeff,

For Republicans, defeating President Obama IS the number one issue for 2012!

    John

    • Their number one issue is hanging onto the money and power they have. A good case can be made for the real Repubby power brokers wanting Obama right where he is, to take the blame for the latest squeezings of the middle and working classes.

  3. I call these two “Dumb and Dumber”. The GOP debates are sure gonna be fun to watch….what a circus.

  4. Actually, they are going to run as a pair, but I’m not sure who gets top billing.

  5. They’re both too busy primping and making fools of themselves to be bothered with a silly old cat fight

  6. Michele Bachmann… a total joke and a big gift to the Dem’s.

  7. You notice that while Palin and Bachman are running around like Wingnut Barbie and Tea-liban Malibu Skipper on a narcissist bender, President Obama is entreating Congress to get their heads out of their…lobbyists…quit worshipping their golden calfs (that’s biblical Stoos)… and do their J-O-B-S…which, is getting the people J-O-B-S, and Veterans help, and seniors healthcare and a little something more to look forward to in their golden years than fancy feast kidney cat chow… Kate

    • Kate,

Those are all very worthy goals so the US Senate should pass the Ryan budget which has ALREADY passed the House and send it to President for his signature!

IF they were to do that I just bet you could find enough Republican votes to lift the debt ceiling just enough to cover that spending and all would be well with the world.

See that, we solved all the problems in two short paragraphs with some simple bi-partisan solutions.

      John

  8. Ryan’s peon manifesto to Ayn Rand would only succeed in providing our senior citizens a downgrade to generic kitty kibble and no heat winters for their golden years. Shame on you for even bringing it up…even if the way you did it has provided an oil slick everyone can see from space…who did you do this for a living for again? Kate

  9. Sadly with
    – So many still out of work
    – Troops still in harms way
    – People losing their homes
    – The Supreme Court putting elective office up for auction to the highest bidder.
    - etc. etc, etc…..
The republicans number 1 priority is to win the next election. If they actually contributed to solve any of these problems in the next year and a half that would put the election at risk.
Unfortunately winning the next election is also the Democrats number 1 priority, accept that since they have the WH, it is in their best interests to solve these issues.

  10. Michele Bachmann… the gift that keeps on giving to the Dems!

    Check this story out…

Michele Bachmann rails against federal funding while husband gets $137,000 in Medicaid funds.

It may get even harder for Tea Party conservative star Michele Bachmann to slam federal spending in her 2012 presidential campaign — now that a new report shows her husband has gotten $137,000 in Medicaid funding at his mental health clinic.

The scoop was revealed today in a new NBC News report, with data obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. The NBC story says that clinical therapist Marcus Bachmann’s Bachmann & Associates firm has been collecting previously reported annual Medicaid payments that have topped $137,000 since 2005 — on top of another $30,000 in federal and state funds reported recently.

The Minnesota-based clinic says it offers “quality Christian counseling” for everything from eating disorders to anger management, according to the report by journalist Michael Isikoff.

The NBC report comes on the heels of a Los Angeles Times piece this week that stated that Bachmann, R-Minn., who has made a campaign against federal spending a hallmark of her presidential run, was also a partner in a farm interest that had received $260,000 in federal subsidies.

Moreover, the LA Times said, Bachman “has sought to keep federal money flowing to her constituents,” even while she has publicly criticized the Obama administration’s stimulus program and has vowed to undo the health care plan passed by Congress which she calls “Obamacare.”

Bachmann has requested stimulus funds to support projects in her district, but “although she has been a fierce critic of earmarks — calling them ‘part of the root problem with Washington’s spending addiction’ — she argued recently “that transportation projects should not be considered congressional pork,” the Times said.

    • I hate to even dignify her ‘campaign’ with the attention, but the hypocrisy is atrocious!
Further, I guess we are to accept that she took in the 23 female foster teens out of the sense of altruism she states, and not out of the conversion/salvation religious zealot mindset that got her bounced from her own charter school board – but do wonder if she declined the monthly support that system provides, based upon her stated conviction that a person of means would never of their own compunction drain those precious public resources unnecessarily.
I think there’s alot more to come, and am continually amazed that these type are the supported representatives of my fellow citizens. Palin was an affront to the women in my life, as this one is to our collective intellect.

      • Sometimes I struggle to understand what upsets you all the most:

The fact that they are conservative women or the fact that they are conservative Christians.

        John

      • My last post definitely did not include conservative women…unless you know something about Perry and Rick Scott that you haven’t shared John.
        Kate

      • One can never be sure these days!

        John

      • John,

It has nothing to do with being conservative Christians or women.

It’s the rampant hypocrisy, excessive bloviation, cocksure self-righteousness, inability to mind their own business, lack of critical thinking skills, lying, scary hallucinations, and finger-wagging stupidity that gets us pissed off.

I hope that clears it up for you.

        Michael A.

      • Stoos –

What do you see as conservative in either of their actions?

And just because you claim Christ as your savior, does not mean you either comprehend what of the hippie spoke, or adhere to the basic tenets of the fable – just look at your buddy Douglas Wilson, founder of your affiliated Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches.

      • J Cutter,

I am not sure what that last point was: Are you saying that Pastor Wilson is not conservative? He certainly does not think that most Republicans today are very conservative and I would tend to agree with him.

        John

      • Michael,

For a moment there I thought you had switched back to the story about Congressman Weiner.

        John

      • Good point.

      • Stoos – nice pass on the real question of what in your god’s name is ‘conservative’ about these bad actors – but I’ll definitely take you up on the slippery-slope dangers of representing and retelling history to further one’s agenda that is a commonplace amongst the extremists, using Douglas Wilson as a perfect example.

It’s a tired subject for those of us in the know, but I have yet to hear your take on one of the better known historical dissections by one of your ‘leaders’,“Southern Slavery, As It Was”, in which Wilson makes the case:
“As we have already mentioned, the ‘peculiar institution’ of slavery was not perfect or sinless, but the reality was a far cry from the horrific descriptions given to us in modern histories.”
        and
“There has never been a multi-racial society which has existed with such mutual intimacy and harmony in the history of the world.”
        and
“Slave life was to them [slaves] a life of plenty, of simple pleasures, of food, clothes, and good medical care.”
        http://www.tomandrodna.com/notonthepalouse/0601768QRAindex.htm

how do these beliefs square with his savior’s teachings?
why exactly would a supposed man of the cloth pair with Wilkins (of League of the South fame, and a fellow Pastor of yours) to forward these concepts?
        To what end?
I just see an attempt to justify their bigotry and advance their divisive agenda.

And before you play the ‘I’ve got black relatives’ card, just can it – because like Palin & Bachmann, I will afford you the same benefit of the doubt and assume that you are being manipulated by a those with a more sinister agenda due to threads of common belief. I believe the extremes elevate puppets to provide cover and convert the more moderate, (in marked evidence throughout the ‘tea party’ crowd), and that only those truly shallow can be fooled like that.
(though in my mind, your affiliations and actions are suspect in a way that I am not convinced you are that hapless, and may very well be a threat to the way of life as I choose to live it)

      • J Cutter,

My first question is whether you have ever actually read a book by Wilson or Wilkins or listened to any of the thousands of hours of their teachings available on the net, or are you just repeating some “best of gottcha” quotes that someone put together on a web page? You can paint a pretty bad picture of me as an anti-Semantic hater of Arabs if you did the same.

If Pastor Wilson was referring to some “history” that has been presented about slavery then perhaps there needed to be just a bit of balance: Remember the congressman who said that millions died on the slave ships?

Even you had the decency to include his reference to slavery being sinful.
I would argue it was quite sinful and we as a nation paid a horrific price for not listening to the Christian voices who called for it to end much sooner as it did in England through the efforts of William Wilberforce.

Both Pastors Wilson and Wilkins know and proclaim that true freedom comes from the Gospel and they are thus the ones who offer true help to Blacks and all the other races and nations of the earth.

Those who pretend to be holier than thou on the issue of race love to attack Christians who dare to discuss real history while at the same time promote the real genocide of the Black race in our day at the Planned Parenthood centers around the country.

        John

      • …and with that we have Stoos’ acceptance, approval, and propagation of some of the most divisive rhetoric witnessed in our society.

        http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2004/spring/taliban-on-the-palouse

No real surprise, as I got what I was fishing for – and without even pulling too deep from the reserves (oh, there’s much more… and closer to home)

thanks for playing – now I’ll bottle my contempt, and put the ‘elder’ in the ‘do not engage’ zone with the local likes of Toad… (though he appears almost benign in this company)

      • J Cutter,

I will take that as a NO for my question about whether you had actually read any of Pastor Wilson’s books. I guess that is what open minds are all about in this Internet age.

        John

  11. Speaking of “supported” representatives–it is now being reported that Gov. Rick Hairy Perry and Gov. Rick Scott went AWOL during the largest fire conflagrations in their states histories to fly on a lobbyists private plane to meet their masters the Koch Brothers. It was a secret even from their constituents. Good thing we know who they care about: and it ain’t the citizens of the great states of Texas or Florida. I’m sure that Colorado was quite cool on the veranda in Vail…they probably could see their states and peoples houses burning from such high peaks…Kate

  12. John Stoos wrote:

“The fact that they are conservative women or the fact that they are conservative Christians.”

It means they lack the critical thinking skills to hold any office. When Sarah Palin rewrites history (see her interpretation of Paul Reverse’s ride) for political gain, it disqualifies her as a candidate for any public office.

    • That is choice Chris.

Giving a little different spin on a recent historical event disqualifies her for office, but a complete rewrite of creation history so that it was all time and chance makes on a “critical thinker.”

Just how critical can advanced rocks or mud be and by what standard would they even base such criticism?

These are questions that real critical thinkers must ask.

      John

  13. John, the facts are that Perry, Scott, Palin, and Bachman are not “spinning” cute little fairy stories. They are 1st class, grade A, Casey Anthony size lie machines. Black is white, up is down, and most harmfully and darkly, Good equals Bad. Which is most unchrist like and unamerica like. They try to manipulate people with guilt and shame and viciously use that which is most sacred to us (our religion and our history) in profane ways for political and monetary gain. Lying is not “spin” John. Neither are racist, coded asides and language and aryan hater nudges, nods, winks and grabass for any camera lens they come in contact with. It’s Lindsay Lohan screwy dysfunctional. For this reason they are not discerning or anywhere close to being authentic leaders…spiritual OR presidential or even grown. Kate

    • Kate,

I would certainly agree that any “1st class, grade A, Casey Anthony size lie… Black is white, up is down, and most harmfully and darkly, Good equals Bad.” would be VERY un-Christ-like and would oppose them.

I would point out however, that if any of those you mentioned had committed such sins the main-stream media would be talking about nothing else!

And as an aside, have you heard any them tell us that we can borrow our way to prosperity? That sounds pretty ‘up is down’ to me and I hear it mostly from your side of the aisle.

      John

    • Kate,

Here is a little educational piece from the brothers Koch who you love to hate:

After reflected on what is presented, ask yourself that question again about who is looking out for the little guy.

      John

      • It sure isn’t the mountain top coal company owners….exporting American coal and destroying the ecosystems and picking the route of mining that requires the least number of employees.

      • There is no doubt that there is a direct link between economic freedom and quality of life. It is also clear that there is a direct link between environmental quality and wealth creation: wealthier economies can afford to invest in quality of life. That is why I am proud to say that I am a capitalist.

But to analyze economic freedom versus quality of life, without taking into consideration factors such as natural resource wealth, the history of colonization and economic imperialism, cultural norms, politics, and the cycles of violence that have inhibited some countries from enjoying economic freedom, is disingenuous.

Take a look at the countries in the list that are former colonies.

In the case of the Congo, CAR, Angola, et al, they all shared the experience of being conquered by western or European powers and having their resources exploited to build external economies. In the case of Singapore, Hong Kong, Chile et al. they had a resource (or in the case of Singapore and Hong Kong service like banking, trade or finance) that lifted them out of poverty.

This video seeks to simplify an issue that is actually quite complex, and leverage that simplicity for political gain. That is kind of the definition of propaganda.

For a guy who likes to use “Triumph of the Will” as an example of how propaganda romanticizes the consolidation of power in the hands of a few, John seems blind to the similarity between Leni Riefenstahl and Koch productions.

      • Steve,

I will certainly concede the complexity of these issues but we have to have some discussion, otherwise this blog would be very silent, or very long and boring.

Since the Koch brothers are promoting principals and not a messianic figure, I think we have apples and oranges when it comes to the presentations.

The video is intended to foster some food for thought and you have added more things to think about. Why did the American and Canadian and even Australian colonies prosper while those you mentioned in Africa or even India do so poorly? Why did Russia, which was never colonized and has perhaps the greatest natural resource wealth in the world, suffer as it did for centuries under Czars and communists?

You know that my simplistic answer is to look for adherence to the basic Biblical principles of life, liberty and property which is what the video hints at. The advance of Christ’s Kingdom has not been a straight line upward, but one with many side-tracks and even set-backs because God has chosen to use redeemed sinners to carry out this task. However, any honest look at history reveals that this is exactly what is happening.

        John

  14. Looks like the Bachman issues are growing and growing!

What a hoot! I’m sooooo happy she tossed in!

  15. Bachman, another disaster for the Right!

These people must work really hard at picking people who will make them look stupid as they do it so well!

(But then again some guy named Weiner, shooting pictures of his “Johnson” out to women doesn’t make the Democrats look too smart either…!!! LOL!!)

  16. But, but, but, John….. How come these guys can’t find someone (and maybe it’s one of “them-there-dwarfs”) who can tote the party line and not make them look stupid?

Maybe they’re setting the bar at a unattainable height?

  17. The country already knows these seven dwarfs are carrying poisoned apples.
