“Yes, Virginia, world economic growth will rebound”

Despite current bearishness about the world’s economy, Boeing — which needs to know — came out with an upbeat long-term growth forecast. It’s a reminder not to let the you-know-who’s get you down and not let too much politics cloud our thinking:

“Demand for passenger and freight aircraft will outpace global growth over the next two decades, according to a long-term forecast of the aerospace market by Boeing, the world’s second-biggest aircraft-maker by revenue,” according to the Financial Times.

“Boeing estimates that growth will translate into a market for 33,500 new aircraft by 2030, with a market value of $4,000bn. Last year the company forecast demand for 30,900 aircraft by 2029 worth some $3,600bn.

“The aircraft-maker anticipates that the biggest business opportunity will be in narrow-body jets, which it expects to account for 70 per cent of all new deliveries, worth nearly $2,000bn. The next largest sector of the market will be smaller wide-bodied jets, with 7,330 deliveries worth $1,770bn.”

About 510 employees in the Space Exploration division have received 60-day advance layoff notices

Now that the NASA Space Shuttle program is near completion, Boeing is announcing layoffs to employees in its Space Exploration division.

With NASA slowly completing its Space Shuttle program, Boeing is issuing 60-day advance layoff notices to about 510 employees in the Space Exploration division. Those receiving layoff notices are about 260 employees in Houston, 150 employees at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and 100 employees at a company facility in Huntington Beach, California.

    • Curtis,
Thing long-term. Don’t let the “B”‘s get you down.

    • Curtis,
Think long-term. Don’t let the “B”‘s get you down.

    • Part of the strategy not to replace the shuttle fleet was the notion that private space flight is now ready to become involved in exploration and exploitation. I suspect that sooner or later you are going to see Boeing manufacturing as many private space liners, tugs and long haul equipment as we see them manufacturing aircraft. And I expect that that time will be sooner rather than later.

  2. Hell, I will be dead long before long-term gets here.

  3. Breaking… WEINER TO LEADERS: I’LL QUIT

  4. Hope, huh? Could someone talk to poor mothers of hungry children about that? It seems that the ever-so-christian GOP led House of Representatives, after exercising, flexing and gazing at themselves in the voter paid gym, found the time to cut the Women, Infants and Children program to smithereens. Maybe they can cobble up a tax payer fire and sacrificial burn pit in the well for the little ones when they die from hunger? So pro-life of them…Kate
