“Lake Tahoe, NV – In a board room still crowded following a 12-hour hearing, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board voted to approve the Boulder Bay Community Enhancement Project. Four years in the planning, the project will replace the aging Tahoe Biltmore Casino in Crystal Bay, NV with an eco-friendly, mixed-use resort that will significantly reduce stormwater pollution and vehicle emissions associated with the site.
“’With science showing us that we can reverse the decline of Lake Tahoe’s clarity by encouraging environmental redevelopment of our town centers, the cost of doing nothing is just too high for the Lake,” TRPA Director Joanne Marchetta said. “Redevelopment projects like Boulder Bay are an important part of the public-private effort to restore Lake Tahoe.”
“Once complete, the Boulder Bay site will include a mix of whole ownership condos, hotel units, affordable housing, a small casino, a health and wellness spa, retail and dining space, pedestrian and transit improvements, and a 4-acre community park. In addition, the project plans to pursue LEED certification, a global standard for green building techniques.”

Good that more and more in the business community realize that they can build projects, turn a profit, without raping and poisoning our environment.
Affordable housing at Lake Tahoe? Sign me up! I am skeptical of developers and their motives but I have seen the plans and this might be an improvement to that area.
Lake Tahoe affordable housing….$500K?
How cool is this? Sounds like a win/win…Kate
Affordable housing?
Yes, I remember that well. Worked across the street in the Nugget. There was a middle aged guy there who opted for one of the bunks in the basement. They fed him, housed him, and every two weeks, they paid him.
Inside of two hours, every two weeks, he put the money back into the slots.
One of my better lessons for life.
Affordable housing is there strictly to provide them with employee housing. There will be none available to the general public. Dream on, everybody. Gotta give the PR guy who thought this tag up some credit, though, marvelously misleading!
Oh, it might be available initially, but it will quickly devolve into what I have described, one way or the other. Garbage containers will be moved nearby, a noisy all night operation as well, traffic routed by it, and so on. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Anything’s better than the Biltmore!
