Editor’s note: Our local peace march stirred up some emotions. Here’s one in Washington D.C. in 1971, with Peter, Paul and Mary this past weekend:
Here’s the one from this past weekend in Grass Valley that “citizen journalist” Douglas Keachie posted here:

Thanks for the hat tip!
I am posting yet more videos to youtube from the same shoot. They take nearly 2 hours of uploading to get two minutes on screen, so keep checking back. Flickr doesn’t handle videos so well, and will be testing Youtube vs Vimeo vs SmugMug, the leading contenders for video hosting, as near as I can tell.
BTW, you’ll have to go to YouTube itself to be able to look at the newer ones as I post them. They do not show up here in Jeff’s blog.
Part 3 is now up.
Thanks for the videos, Doug, and thanks for the post, Jeff. The protest movement, and its eventual success, getting the U S out of Viet Nam (polls of the time were showing 75% of the public were opposed to continuing that particular “police action”) was due largely to the sacrifices of those involved and the popular musicians and writers who took part. Viet Nam was really the first of the Oil Wars, which continue to this day. We have not seen the same intensity of protest, of course, with those going on now, due largely to the fact that in order to engage the U S in this type of effort, after Viet Nam government leaders realized they could not depend on selective service and the draft to maintain the fighting forces necessary, but had to go to a volunteer army, which has included using reserves and national guard units and paid professionals. In looking at the “little wars” (compared to WW’s I and II) engaged in by the U S over the years since the end of WW II, which have really been fought to protect and expand our commercial base, much as those of the European colonizers of the 19th Century were, one must wonder how much of our national wealth has gone into the military efforts and where we stand, as a nation, economically, at present, for wins and losses.
Big corporate, drawing the booty out of other nations, causes the heat, the little taxpayers pay for the air conditioning. Ben, are you taking notes? I’m sure you are.
I read this book a few years back and it is just as valid today as it was back then

Doug, I take notes from all blogs in our county. Researching arguments for and against all sides of the issues.
