Storm update: “Zero visibility,” closed roads, downed trees, high winds

Power pole falls outside of Grass Valley

I-80 and Hwy. 20 are closed because of “zero visibility,” Caltrans is reporting on Sunday morning.

Large downed trees are reported throughout the foothills, according to the California Highway Patrol.

High wind advisories are in effect from Yolo/Solano counties to the Sacramento/Placer county lines.

Rain is expected in Grass Valley, Nevada City and Auburn for most of the week.

The photo here is from “citizen journalist” Curtis Walker. It shows a downed power pole at his home, located between Grass Valley and Chicago Park. The power pole caused some sparks to fly despite the wet weather.

Many residents are holing up at hotels and motels in town.

This is going to be a winter that we all remember for a long time. Where’s the Easter Bunny?
