Dai Meagher spent $74,724 while the victor Tina Vernon spent $47,400 in the race for county Treasurer, according to election documents filed this week.
Of the total spent, Meagher received $39,173 in contributions but also spent $33,275 of his own money, the documents showed. In the latest round, he had a handful of out-of-town contributors and $200 from Jeanne Marks, the spouse of Greg Marks, who participates in CABPRO and is local representative for Dan Logue.
Vernon’s contributions totaled $47,468. Her latest round of contributers included Mike Ferguson ($300), Lisa Swarthout ($100), Cheryl Rellstab ($300), Peter Van Zant ($150), Jim Hurley ($100), Chris Dabis ($999), Jim Dal Bon ($200), Hank Weston ($100) and Stephen Munkelt ($605). The figures represent their latest contributions, as well as the total donated for the campaign.
Vernon’s expenses included $3000 to campaign consultant Donna Kingwell and $2000 to Hurley for data management. The Sierra Sun-Swift Communications collected $2220 in campaign ad revenue, while KNCO collected $1329.

Looks like the ones that managed their money soundly got the job. Congratulations on getting a fine money manager for treasurer. I think we got that in our new governor too…Meg Whitman spent 186 million and change and Brown came into office spending less than half that. Good, sound bargains I think.
Tina evidently has gained some wisdom as she has gotten older. Or was it her handlers and former boss? Time will tell.
I have met and talked with both Dai and Tina over the months and both are very nice people along with their families.
Dai unfortunately in my opinion veered down the counter/ negative campaign road, which I feel hurt him way more than it helped him. This isn’t criticism but just an observation. His campaign did what they felt they needed to do. I know it swayed my opinion.
I voted for Dai in the primary and Tina in the general.
“I voted for Dai in the primary and Tina in the general.”
Me too, Ben.
Who was responsible for the counter/negative campaign road in Dai’s campaign?
1. His CABPRO, hard right supporters?
2. The Democrat Central Committee board members who supported him?
3. The moderates

I did not like the way the race skidded over to the dark side, in the beginning.
Put me off both contestants for awhile.
But, in the end, I do believe we have a fine county Treasurer.
Why would ANYONE spend $30k plus of their own hard earned money for a county officeholder is beyond me!!!
Not being judgmental -I just don’t get it.
Meagher lost my vote the first time that I saw an illegal sign posted.
Meagher covered the County in illegal signs and he placed them on private property, without having permission. When I talked to him about this and emailed him about this and asked him to remove them… he refused.
Oooooooops! Seems like his sign plan failed.
Perhaps some of our Nevada County Hard Right Good Old Boys should start getting the message, and hopeful candidates for local offices should get it too, the support of well-known Nevada County Wingnuts is becoming the Kiss of Death, and as some recent political losers may havw learned to their dismay, you can run but you can’t hide.
The Union got around to reporting this on Monday, four days later.
