I believe that photo is the toppling of Saddam Statue, a US government propaganda staged event. Such as the 9/11-Saddam connection, WMD’s in Iraq, Afghanistan-9/11 connection, Jessica Lynch, Pat Tillman, and so on….
But we need to cut our social programs because our nation has large debt. Hmmm lets take a look at where that debt came from?
Wasn’t that a trumped up ball of crap, Ben? But let’s just do the “Mubarek shuffle” and hold on to every last dubloon we can keep our greedy fingers around while people starve…what is wrong with this picture, man?
One of these things is not like the other, I love Sesame Street! And speaking of similarities with real differences: President Barack Obama has announced, (again), TA DA…He’s a…CHRISTIAN, like Tom McClintock and Jerry Brown are, (not that this should matter) and like me! And like, TA DA, 10% of the Egyptian population are Christian and want ole Mubarek to hit the road too! Like lots of jewish people in Israel do too! (You wouldn’t know this without reading different Israeli press and the christian science monitor–they can be very good) and President Obama referenced St. Francis of Assisi’s, “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace” at the prayer breakfast this morning, Yay Christians! And I don’t know this for certain, but I’d be willing to bet the gentleman, Native American, that gave a Native American Blessing in Tucson awhile back probably thinks Mubarek stinks on ice too for what he’s doing to his people. John McCain said boo too! So whump, there it is…Katr
The increasing religious posturing is increasing, which is very concerning.
Some history and push back against those who falsely believe America is a Christian nation and was established as such.
A famous quote used to prove that Thomas Jefferson was devote Christian, so much so it is on the Jefferson memorial in DC. For the record he was a deist like many of the founding Fathers/ Mothers.
I have sworn upon the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” – Jefferson to Dr. Benjamin Rush, September 23, 1800
Here is the excerpt in which the quote comes. It is against the Christian church trying to insert religion into US politics/ government. He will fight against the US becoming a Christian governed nation.
“the successful experiment made under the
prevalence of that delusion on the clause of the constitution, which,
while it secured the freedom of the press, covered also the freedom
of religion, had given to the clergy a very favorite hope of
obtaining an establishment of a particular form of Christianity thro’
the U. S.; and as every sect believes its own form the true one,
every one perhaps hoped for his own, but especially the Episcopalians
& Congregationalists. The returning good sense of our country
threatens abortion to their hopes, & they believe that any portion of
power confided to me, will be exerted in opposition to their schemes.
And they believe rightly; for I have sworn upon the altar of god,
eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.
But this is all they have to fear from me: & enough too in their
opinion, & this is the cause of their printing lying pamphlets
against me”
Anyone who tries to treat Jefferson as a faithful Christian is being deceptive: The man wrote his own New Testament with all of the miracles removed: Hard to call that orthodox.
On the other hand anyone who tries to say that Jefferson was typical of the leaders of that day is also being deceptive. Most of these men, like Adams, Witherspoon or Henry were strong Christians who understood the importance of the Christian foundations they were laying for our nation.
If you have not watched it, I would commend the recent HBO series on Adams for you viewing pleasure. It was very informative, and now very relevant with what is happening in Cairo when you see how Adams and others struggled to keep the “revolution” on solid ground rather than just being a mob action in Boston.
Biblical scholars question whether the miracle stories are genuine, and rightly so. Are we to follow the great magician or the great teacher?
Don’t forget, John, it is your cohort of “ministers” that represents the scribes and pharisees of old that the bible tells us are responsible for Jesus’s death. Jesus showed us a narrow road to salvation and there are few in your group who follow it. Jesus went so far as to condemned this group you are in with the harshest of words.
Those same “scholars” who deny the miracles also deny the most important miracle, the resurrection.
The Apostle Paul addressed such thinking in his letter to the Church at Corinth,
“Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up–if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!”
Please be assured that I read the Gospels often because we now have almost two thousand years of Church history and it is littered with folks who went the way of those Scribes and Pharisees.
The only way to avoid doing the same with our human nature is to keep our eyes on Jesus!
Why not a demonstration to support democracy in our own country? We should look in the mirror. Democracy is very sick here. Democracy requires a populace that is informed from a free press that isn’t in bondage to the likes of Murdoch. He and his ilk, to include most news, rule us by the power of misinformation. If we want to support the Egyptians we will get our own act together. I am certain that they would be the most encouraged and validated to see us take a cue from them.
Greg,
I’m sure you have noticed by my posts, I am right there with you and that was behind my worldwide statement. We have an oligarchy controlling the planet through the guise of centralized governments. Decentralize the power and allow democracy to flourish.
Irony of ironies, Michael Lewis’, “The Big Short” is out in paperback today…he is having a live web blog today as well! Going to get it in paperback first thing:)
Vodafone just said that Egyptian authorities “hijacked” their text messaging systems to send pro-mubarek messages…too late Count Chocula…and apparently, a FOX news team was beaten and hospitalized in Egypt…get well and get back out there soon!
Look through the mirror, Kate. This isn’t a football game. Beating up a FOX news team gives them authenticity to broadcast more of their deranged NEWS. That’s a blow for democracy and more dollars in Murdochs pocket. Where they need to really get beat up is to hold them accountable for feeding the sheeples here their twisted and dishonest version of the facts. Democracy begins at home by stopping the prostitution of our NEWS to those with the money.
I was kindof being facetious a bit Greg;) Just checked back in on what’s groovin in Beckistan…10 seconds…yep…still crazy…and Faux news is a $hip of fool$…along with any who watch them…
Some similarities John, but the differences are important. The difference between the Egyptian revolution today and that of Iran in 1973 is that a single man, Khomeini, supported by a religious party was leading the charge. Today there is no such focus on replacement. More importantly, the turmoil is regional.
I think the larger point in all this is about being our brothers keeper. I mean, Tucson to Egypt…stem to stern, up and down…it just seems to me to be the inescapable lesson…
John, the resurrection is the very epitome, the christians BIGGEST example of being our brothers keeper. Just thought I’d point that out to you…christian to christian. Now, the next thing we need to do is place Mubarek and Beck in a special pink, padded PANIC Room together…somewhere outside Egypt and the United States and let the grown ups work some more, and let the protestors protest in peace some more…and take away the camels and horseys away from the moneychangers over there…and we’ve got something going…
John Stoos,
Did you look at the online version of War is a Racket. This is why Jefferson did not want a standing army and compromised with the final version of the second amendment. A well regulated militia.
O.K., Mubarek is acting like an old “Sugar Daddy” to the country of Egypt. They’ve captured a Google executive, a fully grown man. They’ve burned all free thinking journalism establishments…are riding around on camels in suits and ties in a bad Chamber of Commerce ad. Is Suleman really drunk or just really old or really afraid of Count Chocula? It’s time to freeze dry the “old lions’ assets” and remind him that the the toothless paternalism makes him sound like the bad, old Uncle in The Lion King. Everybody is onboard now…and they are going to go to the palace and help Mubarek AND Suleman pack if Suleman doesn’t come to from the “they’ll go away” delusion enema Mubarek is busily administering to him. Good Lord man, your citizens aren’t on a Red Bull jag and studying for some Egyptian final…LOOK OUTSIDE Suleman! Earth old grandad…
I believe that photo is the toppling of Saddam Statue, a US government propaganda staged event. Such as the 9/11-Saddam connection, WMD’s in Iraq, Afghanistan-9/11 connection, Jessica Lynch, Pat Tillman, and so on….

I think our founders learned a thing or two post SALEM…just a thought…

John, I was kind of surprised you passed on my remark about the scribes and pharisees. I guess “if the shoe doesn’t fit, don’t put it on?”

Egypt is just continuing the world’s people pushing back against the top 1% that owns more than 40% of the worlds wealth.
I would love to join a local demonstration in support of democracy in Egypt and worldwide, I know Reinette is all fired up as well.
Why not a demonstration to support democracy in our own country? We should look in the mirror. Democracy is very sick here. The big question that must be answered is what to do that will begin a change.
Greg,
I am sure that you meant to say “Murdoch and Soros” when talking about billionaires with influence

Oh, I was on a roll.
Jeff,
The more disturbing comparison that haunts me right now is between Egypt and Iran in 1979.
John
Some similarities John, but the differences are important. The difference between the Egyptian revolution today and that of Iran in 1973 is that a single man, Khomeini, supported by a religious party was leading the charge. Today there is no such focus on replacement. More importantly, the turmoil is regional.
Good points: Thought I don’t remember hearing much about a man named Khomeini until the anti-Shah voices were pretty loud.
Was it really as early as 1973? I must be getting old.
John
Got me there! I stand corrected on the date.
I heard tonight that it was 1978.
John
You can sorta blame the US, us, for proping Mubarak up for 30 years.
Now we get to play the great savior, if the folks in Egypt are being it. I think to some degree they are.
Calls for OBAMA to save us now.
Something to think about b

That scene with the camels and horses was one of the strangest things I have seen in a long time.

I just heard that Hosni’s estimated worth is about $60B, while most Egyptians get by on a dollar a day. Guess you can’t spell Egypt without “gyp”.
