Our county “emissary” Mark Meckler is spreading his “good word” around the nation’s capital this week, and it’s wearing thin on some.
“I was outraged today when Tea Party Patriots cofounders Mark Meckler and Jenny Beth Martin stated they would be watching the newly elected Congress to make sure they’re doing the ‘right’ thing,’” said nationally syndicated radio host Leslie Marshall in U.S. News & World Report. “They said this during a taping of Follow the Money, one of the Fox Business Channel programs I appear on. Just what exactly is the ‘right’ thing? Oh you mean what they want? Or perhaps their demands?!”
She continues: “It is a very slippery slope when an organization, which comprises only a minority of House members, Senate members, and even voters start deciding what’s ‘right.’
“Is it ‘right’ to repeal healthcare when that doesn’t cut spending, create jobs, or secure our borders?! And whose benefits do we take away first, the children who are ill or anyone who has a pre-existing condition!?! You decide. Ah those family values!
Mark Meckler, Jenny Beth Martin, and all Tea Party folks either need to form their own party or learn how Washington’s game is played.”

Good reason for them to be wearing thin–Mr. Meckler is basically saying establishment Republicans are going to stiff the Tea Party if they don’t toe the line. If find it odd that I agree with him on this–the Tea People will become the establishment, or they will be the thorn in the side, either way, Washington will change them–it is just the nature of power.
I also agree with Mr. Meckler that we need to change how we spend money and how much we spend–I just would not risk a government shutdown to do it.

Here’s an interesting one:
GOP bends its own House rules:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0111/47124.html
I remember how fearsome the Black Panthers and other radical organizations were to many in the sixties and seventies.
Now Al Sharpton and Jess Jackson are old men.
With Jackson living down his love child and Al more concerned with having his hair relaxed, they just want to be comfortable and stylish, content to buzz around the fringes of power.
Oh, they groan out of their Barcaloungers occasionally to weigh in with the plethora of talking heads on a variety of issues, but they no longer instill awe and intimidation.
Frothing with impotent rage, the TP’s want to highjack the government and wrest power from the powerful.
Good luck with that.
They too will eventually run out of steam, fade away and become nothing more than a rather odd footnote to our nation’s history.
Meckler reminds me of Mr. Haney in Green Acres…maybe with Mr. and Mrs. Ziffle in tow…they could be a new sitcom. Is this what Heckler Meckler is sellin up in the big city? And where’s Arnold? I loved him. Just try not to be too embarrassing Mark, k? Kate Hancock
Kate, I never thought of that but since you put it that way, I agree.
The anger of the tea party is justified but where were they during the W. Bush era when all this bad government, debt, and the shredding of the US Constitution was taking place?
I was writing letters to the editor, started a political email, participating in peace rally’s against illegal invasions, and was protesting in the streets the theft of our civil liberties. How about you?
I believe the Tea Party should gather signatures and create their own political party.
Ben, I agree the TP has legitimate concerns but their tactics reek. They claim to be non-partisan but look who they support. They claim to be fiscally conservative but had no problem throwing a high dollar chow down the other night. They claim they are not racist but who has been photographed holding racist signs?
Not all members of the TP behave like this, in fact, some are very decent adults who are fed up with business as usual. I believe, in their desperation, they reached out to anyone or anything.
It was interesting watching Mark Meckler on Lawrence O’Donnell’s MSNBC show the other night. I was amazed at the level of Meckler’s delusion with saying he thought the Democratically held Senate might actually go along with the House’s repeal of the Health Care law. Meckler was saying how the people spoke with the last election with it’s results and politicians should listen. Oh really Mark? Should all the Democrats ignore all their votes and victories because Repulicans had a few more? In addition to Meckler not being ready for primetime, he is delusional. What about the 08 election Mark and how did Republicans listen to that? They listened to the 08 election by trying to stop Obama and the Democrats every way they could. So why is the Republican victory in 2010 any different?
I think its pure arrogance, when Republicans win they think “have a mandate” to do what they want. When ever politicians and parties think they do, it always end badly.
You have to remember the Three Founding Principles of the Tea Party:
“I’ll pay you tomorrow.”
“The check is in the mail.”
“You should not be upset by your low salary schedule, your retirement monies are rock solid safe forever,
…… unless, of course, we spent it all for other things for more important folk than you, ahead of time, and we now blame you for our shortfalls.”
That is the True Nature of the Tea Party.
