A perfect ending for Zenyatta? Well, almost

Update: Zenyatta lost by a head – ironically, to a horse named Blame. a story and video is here.

Zenyatta, the California race horse whose trainer began his career at Loma Rica in Grass Valley, can have a perfect ending this afternoon.

This modern-day Seabiscuit can finish her career with a 20-0 record. Zenyatta races in the Breeder’s Cup Classic for $5 million at 3:45 p.m. on ABC and ESPN.

John Shirreffs is Zenyatta’s trainer. Zenyatta is known for storming home “like something launched from a slingshot at the head of the homestretch,” as L.A. Times sportswriter Bill Dwyre reports.

Here’s Zenyatta winning race #18 at Del Mar:

Somebody put loaded dynamite in my car

Anything can happen at Disneyland, where we’re spending a long weekend.

On the Haunted House ghost ride, you normally hook up with a “hitchiking ghost” (hologram) at the end of the ride.

In my case, somebody put a loaded stick of dynamite in my “black carriage.” I’m sure it was a coincidence.

Disneyland is less crowded this time of year. Our 8-year-old is thrilled, but we’re happy too – enjoying childhood memories and riding the Matterhorn and other “oldies but goodies.”

Disney remains more imaginative than what you see nowadays.

Here’s a video of a new exhibit at California Adventure Park called World of Color:
