Nevada City Seafood has closed its store in Nevada City, a blow to the city’s plan to revitalize itself.
Meanwhile, a plan to open a California Organics at the foot of Broad Street has slipped past its completion date but is still in the works.
The popular fish store will continue to operate at its longstanding Grass Valley location.
“The Nevada City Seafood Store in Nevada City is now closed! In an attempt to get as low in the foxhole as possible we are consolidating our operations to the 1020 Whispering Pines , Grass Valley location!” said owner Eric Juell in an email.
(I ran into Eric at the SPD Market yesterday afternoon and urged him to clear the air with customers: rumors were swirling that he was going to close all together. I’ve been a big supporter of Eric’s venture from the get go, seeing a demand for fresh fresh in the foothills. Eric told me he was planning to cut prices on some items, too, in light of the recession).
“In the Nevada City location we had been anticipating the opening of the
Nevada City Marketplace and our potential together, to provide a unique local shopping experience. As of yesterday no tentative opening date for the Marketplace is set.
“It is very unfortunate , we love our little Fish Shop, but we must do what is right for our customer’s as well as our creditors, if we go out of business, we lose the potential to sell to and pay those that have helped build our Humble little Fish Shop!”
