Kris Kristofferson at The Center for the Arts?

Kris

On its Facebook site on Wednesday night, The Center for the Arts is asking “How about Kris Kristofferson?”

“Just asking to gauge interest,” it asks.

Later it adds: “Will keep you all posted if we can make this one work. If so, it would be in June.”

“Kris Kristofferson! I’m already there!” said one respondent.

Cool. The Center drew the Smothers Brothers to a sell-out crowd. It’s been doing a good job of building some buzz around The Center.

I get more information from social network sites and blogs than the local media.

The Union, for example, posts stories to Facebook *after* they’ve already been published in the paper — and that’s already a day later than when the rest of us posted it online.

Yoo-hoo, the Internet is changing how we communicate.

Does clerk-recorder candidate Pruett know the Election Code?

Clerk-recorder candidate Barry Pruett submitted his candidate statement for the Voter Information Pamphlet with this language:

“Over the past years, the Nevada County Clerk-Recorder’s office become an embarrassment. We need new management. Let’s stop the drama and put professional management in charge.”

He submitted this statement despite words in the Election Code (Section 13307) that any candidate’s statement “shall not in any way make reference to other candidates for that office or to another candiate’s qualifications, character or activities.

“The elections official shall not cause to be printed or circulated any statement that the elections official determines is not so limited or that includes any reference prohibited by this section.”

Assistant clerk-recorder Gail Smith said, “I immediately informed Mr. Diaz, the clerk-recorder, that I believed there to be a problem with Mr. Pruett’s statement, and I requested to handle the situation without him, and Mr. Diaz agreed. At no point was Mr. Diaz involved in the deliberation process. I alone worked closely with the county counsel’s office to make this decision.”

Smith said she called Pruett to inform him of the decision.

Doesn’t Barry know the Election Code? It is very clear on matters like this. How much time was spent by the assistant clerk-recorder and county counsel conferring on this matter?

For the record, Barry was endorsed by Sierra College Trustee Aaron Klein, among others. Barry’s wife works for Tom McClintock’s campaign. At a recent Tea Party Patriot rally, McClintock allegedly said it’s time to get rid of that “left-wing” clerk recorder.

The election isn’t even until June, so we can expect more controversies to erupt.
